Devin Braune unbeatable

The Nürburgring Nordschleife is one of the highlights of every World eX season – and Devin Braune was once again unbeatable on the world’s most challenging racetrack.

The three-time World eX Champion secured pole position with a new track record and a lead of over four seconds in qualifying. In the reversed-grid Sprint, he was already in third place after the Grand Prix circuit – having started from tenth on the grid. On lap 1, he overtook both tv racing team-mates Robin Hay and Thomas Voigt and comfortably secured victory ahead of Nicolas Hillebrand and Jarno Wiese, who were involved in a photo finish.

The sprint began with contact between Luke Pound and Ben Loxton. Pound lost control of his eX ZERO whilst braking for Turn 1 and sent Loxton, who had started from pole position, into a spin. Steffen Walter spun in the fast chicane. Jarno Wiese went off the track at the entrance to the Nordschleife and Chris Overend was ‘turned around’ by Nicolas Hillebrand at Ex-Mühle. At Pflanzgarten, Robin Hay made contact with the barriers after touching the inside kerbs.

Hay was able to continue and was waved by his team-mate Thomas Voigt on lap 2. Voigt managed to keep former champion Julius Martin at bay in a tight battle, finishing fifth and securing his first points of the season.

The podium line-up in the main Race was the same as in the Sprint: Braune secured an unchallenged lights-to-flag victory, finishing ten seconds ahead of Nicolas Hillebrand. Jarno Wiese had to work a little harder for his third place after a slip-up on the first lap at Adenauer Forst. He fought his way past Steffen Walter, Robin Hay and Julius Martin with spectacular manoeuvres, thus completing the podium once again.

Julius Martin finished fourth. Behind him, Robin Hay and Steffen Walter engaged in a thrilling four-lap duel, which Hay narrowly won. Walter’s team-mate Chris Overend was unlucky once again: the Brit spun on the opening lap at Hatzenbach. He fought his way up from the back of the 16-car grid to finish seventh. Having been among the fastest on the Nordschleife in the run-up to the race and in qualifying, finishing eighth and seventh was a disappointment for him.

Devin Braune continues to lead the World Championship comfortably after three rounds. In the team standings, Brabham Motorsport slightly extended its lead over tv racing with four podium finishes out of a possible six on the Nordschleife.
