The reverse-grid Sprint at Sepang was one of the most intense races in the history of the World eX Championship.
The top six finishers were was covered by less than nine seconds with a lot of intense battles happening on the challenging Grand Prix circuit.
Frank Enger started from pole-position. The German lost the lead to Steffen Walter in Turn 1, also dropped behind Nicolas Hillebrand and was spun around but Patrick Winzenick before the end of the first lap.
Steffen Walter was able to keep the lead until the third-last lap before dropping to P5 struggling on his used tyres.
Nicolas Hillebrand attacked Walter as early as lap 2 but lost a position to Walter’s teammate Chris Overend when he ran wide going into Turn 1.
His failed move laid the foundation for a fascination four-way battle for P2 between Overend, Hillebrand, Braune and Julius Martin.
Devin Braune emerged victorious also from this four-way battle, scoring another victory, albeit just 2.550 seconds ahead of Nicolas Hillebrand.
Julius Martin completed the podium while Robin Hay was able to grab P4 from T17 E-Speed teammates Steffen Walter and Chris Overend late on.
Devine Braune went on to score a commanding lights-to-flag victory in the feature Race, beating Nicolas Hillebrand by more than 10 seconds. This could have been different when Hillebrand would not have made a mistake on lap 1, running wide and dropping behind Julius Martin.
Hillebrand was able to regain P2 from Martin, but unable to recover the time lost to Braune. Instead, Martin kept the pressure high on Hillenbrand for the entire race finishing third less than a second behind Hillebrand after an entertaining battle.
Chris Overend finished an impressive fourth in his first race after a surgery. He used a better tyre management to pass his teammate Steffen Walter who came home in P5.
Robin Hay finished sixth after a comeback drive. The German was touched by Patrick Winzenick on the first lap and lost many positions. He passed Rui Cabeda, Frank Enger and Bodo Kräling with whom he battled until the finish.
Devin Braune continues to lead the Drivers’ Championship while tv racing was able to reduce the gap to Brabham Motorsport in the Teams’ Championship to 13 courtesy of Nicolas Hillebrand and Robin hay.
Bremotion founder and owner Patrick Brenndörfer was guest of the latest World eX Bizz Talk right before the start of Qualifying, talking about his stunning career, sustainability in motorsport, and his team which is running a sim racer in the NASCAR Euro Series.
