A stunning opening lap from Devin Braune was the highlight of Round 7 of the 2025 World eX Championship at Brno.
Starting the Sprint from 8th on the reversed grid, the German game developer passed Jarno Wiese right away and opted for an outside line going into Turn 1. This allowed Braune to move up to P4 in the first corner behind Patrick Winzenick, Chris Overend and Johannes Meinck. Braune passed Meinck going into Turn 3 and gained another position when Chris Overend was forced to run wide while attempting to snatch the lead from Patrick Winzenick. Braune was right on the tale of Winzenick’s eX ZERO for the reminder of the opening lap and passed the professional motorsport photographer with a bold move entering the final chicane before start-finish. What a lap from the World Champion!
The feature race was much calmer and saw another stellar performance from Devin Braune who scored a commanding lights-to-flag victory with a margin of almost twelve seconds. It was victory 48 for the German in the World eX Championship who is now closing in on this 50th win in the series.
Braune had already been the reference in Qualifying at Brno, snatching another pole position on the demanding track. German kart racer Jarno Wiese qualified second, three tenth of a second behind the championship leader, while Interlagos Sprint winner Steffen Walter completed the top three.
Early leader Patrick Winzenick dropped behind Devin Braune, Chris Overend, Julius Martin and Steffen Walter in the Sprint and was just able to keep his recovering teammate Bodo Kräling behind in a fierce last-lap battle for P6.
Kräling was in a group with Julius Martin and Steffen Walter who all were trying hard to gain positions early on. Kräling was pushed wide by Walter and later made a mistake in the final corner of the track, losing a position to Jarno Wiese.
Wiese delivered most of the action in the Sprint after struggling to keep up with Devin Braune on the opening lap and getting stuck in traffic. Wiese lost more ground when an attempt to pass Steffen Walter failed before starting an impressive comeback drive. The young German passed Bodo Kräling when the photographer made a mistake in the final corner and later closed the gap to Steffen Walter and the second attempt to pass the Interlagos Sprint winner worked. Wiese eventually finished fifth behind Braune, Overend, Martin and Walter.
The feature race was less dramatic. Jarno Wiese finished second behind Devin Braune after starting from the front row while Chris Overend was able to pass his teammate Steffen Walter and three-time World eX Champion Julius Martin making it a double podium for the Brit at Brno.
There is just one more regular round left on the World eX schedule before the Season 8 Super Final at Daytona.
Before Qualifying at Brno, new community member Luke Pound was guest in the World eX Bizz Talk, speaking about his passion for racing and his challenge of racing with just one arm. Poud scored points on his World eX debut with a nice 8th place in the feature race.
