Devin Braune unstoppable at Zandvoort

Devin Braune once again showed his masterclass, smashing the track record of the eX ZERO in Qualifying and easily winning both the Sprint and the Race at the 2024 Zandvoort eX Prix. Steffen Walter and Julius Martin completed the podium in both races while Frank Enger and Bodo Kräling shared the glory in the AM class.

The motto of Round 2 was ‘Rollercoaster’ and the demanding track in the dunes of Zandvoort definitely lived up to this.

The Dutch community of World eX keeps growing, with Andy Maassen joining Yvonne Houffelaar and Jurgen van Bergen for the first time on the World eX grid.

Jurgen van Bergen was guest of the World eX Bizz Talk, giving the community members interesting insights about the Race Clutch organization, including their new cooperation with the Maserati Formula E team which just had won the Tokio E-Prix on the weekend before Zandvoort.

With some of the regular drivers missing the Zandvoort round due to clashing commitments, Devin Braune did not face any real opposition. It took Braune just five laps in the Sprint to move from P8 on the reversed grid to P1.

T17 E-Speed’s Dominik Heussen took advantage of starting the reversed grid Sprint race from pole position, defending the lead until Lap 5. A slight mistake just after being passed by Devin Braune eventually cost him a place on the overall podium and the win in the AM class which was claimed by bspowersports‘ Frank Enger.

Enger‘s victory was a small consolation for the bspowersports team as both his teammates had a rough time in the Sprint with Bodo Kräling going off on Lap 1 and Björn Skottke on Lap 7.

Julius Martin and Steffen Walter completed the overall podium following brilliant comeback drives despite starting 6th and 7th.

Devin Braune achieved a lights-to-flag victory in the longer main race, but there was quite some action behind him.

bspowersports teammates Frank Enger and Björn Skottke collided in Turn 3 and it was a big effort from Frank not to spin off.

World eX rookie Andy Maassen was less lucky, crashing out in Turn 8 while Domink Heussen was able to continue his race after spinning in the same place one lap later.

Steffen Walter and Julius Martin battled for P2 behind the dominant Devin Braune.

Three-time Champion Julius Martin was able to pass Walter on Lap 5 but a mistake on Lap 9 allowed both Walter and Bodo Kräling to pass him.

Martin was able to get P3 back from Bodo Kräling who scored his third AM class win of the season after his mishap in the Sprint, but he was not able to retake P2 from Steffen Walter.

Patrik Barbulescu and Björn Skottke completed the AM class podium with strong performances in the main race finishing 5th and 6th overall behind Braune, Walter, Martin and Kräling.

With four wins from four races, Devin Braune enjoys a commanding lead in the PRO category with Bodo Kräling holding and impressive fourth place as the best driver from the AM class.

The World eX Championship will go down-under, racing at Bathurst in Australia on May 7.
