Michael Niemas dominates RCCO E-Sport Series opener

Michael Niemas did full justice to his role as favourite at the season start of the new RCCO E-Sport Series. With his red Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo, he won both races on the virtual Red Bull Ring with ease. In the first race, Niemas won by 10 seconds, in the second race he was almost 30 seconds ahead. “It was a lot of fun and I’m already very excited about the next races when we find out which track will be driven on just before practice begins,” said Niemas.

Stefan Waschow and Björn Skottke completed the podium in both races – and that in each case after hard-fought fights and contacts in the final corner. Waschow also managed to snatch pole position from Niemas for the second race. The engineer currently does not drive with a steering wheel, but with a controller.

Thomas Voigt had to be content with two hard-fought fourth places. The RCCO record champion complained about a technical problem at his steering wheel. “I could not adjust the brake balance during the races,” said Voigt.

The South African Johan Laubscher initially fought in the leading group in both races, but dropped back to fifth place in the closing stages.

The next two races of the new RCCO E-Sport Series will take place on 9 March.
