Devin Braune and Nicolas Hillebrand took centre stage in round six of the RCCO World eX Championship, as the series visited Maastricht’s fast street circuit in scorching summer conditions.
After nine consecutive pole positions, reigning champion Devin Braune was beaten in qualifying for the first time since Indianapolis in May 2025. tv racing’s Nicolas Hillebrand claimed his maiden World eX pole position, edging Braune by 0.240 seconds.
The reverse-grid sprint, however, quickly swung Braune’s way. The Brabham Motorsport driver had a good start and produced a stunning opening lap. He was running in P3 early on and grabbed the lead from front-row starter Björn Skottke at the beginning of lap two.
Hillebrand encountered more traffic during the first lap and lost valuable time behind several cars. He recovered to second but finished 2.626 seconds behind Braune. bspowersports’ Frank Enger completed the podium after successfully defending against late pressure from Julius Martin (Martin Racing Team) and Robin Hay (tv racing) on the final lap.
The feature race delivered a spectacular battle between Braune and Hillebrand. Across six of the 12 laps, the two championship leaders fought relentlessly for the lead, exchanging positions several times and running side-by-side through Maastricht’s demanding street-circuit sections.
The fierce rivalry came to a head twice. In the first incident, Braune made contact with Hillebrand from the outside, sending Hillebrand into a spin and into the barriers. Hillebrand’s eX ZERO sustained damage in the impact. Braune waited for Hillebrand in order to avoid a post-race penalty.
A second collision followed on lap six at the exit of the first long tunnel. Hillebrand spun again, ending up facing the wrong direction and losing several positions before he was able to continue. With a damaged car, the German could recover no further than fifth.
Once the battle with Hillebrand had ended, Braune had clear air ahead and controlled the remainder of the feature race. He crossed the line more than ten seconds ahead of Julius Martin, who had enjoyed a front-row view of the leaders’ intense battle.
Robin Hay completed the feature race podium for tv racing after winning a battle with Frank Enger.
Björn Skottke, who had led at the beginning of the sprint race, was later involved in contact with team-mate Enger and finished seventh. He followed that result with sixth place in the feature race.
It was also a difficult evening or Luke Pound. Braune’s Brabham Motorsport team-mate qualified fourth but had contacts and spins in both races, leaving him eighth in the sprint and seventh in the feature race.
Rui Cabeda was the sole Shutterspeed Racing driver in Maastricht, the Portuguese racer taking a strong sixth place in the sprint race.
