The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including No. 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. #RacingFortheClimate is supporting this goal.

We are a group of passionate people who are working in motorsport, mobility, clean energy and esports racing. We love motorsport. We collect ideas, discuss them and have regular meetings in the virtual and real world.
Motorsport has always been driving new technologies while also attracting millions of people all around our planet. Formula 1 is one of the most popular sports in the world which keeps growing and also attracting younger people.
On the other hand, cars and individual mobility are getting more and more a bad image for their impact on pollution and the climate crisis – including a ban of petrol engines in the European Community from 2035 onwards.
We definitely all need to act and reduce our carbon footprints. But we need to do this in a smart way.
While it is popular to condemn cars and racing with internal combustions engines, we should see the bigger picture.
The share in air pollution of some cars racing on race tracks is hardly measurable. Travel and spectators have a far bigger impact. And this is the case for all big events on our planet.
Motorsport should continue to be a driver for advanced technology – and also a role model for sustainable events. Electric cars are one way to achieve the targets. But we should be open to any other great technology that helps reducing our carbon footprint.
